DHC Collagen 7000mg Drink Review, Results

And so my vain pot urges took over 2 weeks before my wedding photo shoot. I grabbed 3 packs for DHC Collagen 7000mg drinks from Watson's at a total of less than 100SGD and beamed away at my good buy.

I tested 1 bottle for allergy reaction before bedtime and it seeemed alright. I then  put them aside to drink 2 weeks before my wedding photo shoot. The only discomfort I felt was the thirst the morning after drinking it. Even this didn't deter me as I was so looking forward to filling up my skin with more collagen. :P

DHC Collagen Drink tastes better chilled than in room temperature. It is much less sour when chilled. Also, when compared to Fancl Tense Up, it is sweeter and has a very lovely fragrance when the bottle cap is removed.

4 days into drinking this collagen drink, I got a tiny bump on my right cheek and I hardly ever get pimples or bumps on my cheeks. I thought it was a pimple and went to my facial lady but was told that it is the precursor of pimple. Hhhhm...

Anyway, my thirst went on and I never drank so much water in half a week before. It's like a constantly-on-the-verge-of-having-sore-throat feeling.

See, So Sad...

Yet at the same time, I felt that my skin was smoother when I put on make up. It seemed like it, at least.

And into my 5th day, I noticed more bumps in the mirror under the sunlight! Argh!!! I am going to stop taking DHC Collagen Drink.

It's not working for me. I'm letting my mum try it instead, maybe it'll add some glow for her. Hehe...

Well, I'm glad I tried it before my photo shoot and not before my actual day wedding. Oh well, this product doesn't work for me. And my skin isn't usually that kind that reacts to new products in a negative way. This one just works in a bad way. Boo...

Fancl Tense Up works much better. You can read about my previous post here. Meiji powder and Fancl pills didn't have much effect on me but at least there was no adverse reaction.

So, my verdict is... I will not buy it ever again. I'll continue my hunt to look for ways to shine, only after my photo shoot. Jut to be safe. ;)

Permanent Laser Hair Removal - Lumenis, Most Effective Hair Removal I've Tried!

I've been so busy lately but I just have to review my most recent hair removal experience coz it was really good! By that, I meant the effectiveness and the comfort level throughout the session.

Ok, so here it goes...

About 2 months back, I was invited for a trial laser session using the LUMENIS LightSheer Duet machine.

I didn't know what to expect and whether it would feel any different from my regular underarm and bikini line IPL sessions at Musee Platinum.

When I arrived at the location, I was asked to go into the treatment room which was neat and filled with several machines.

I was also given a loose-fitting navy satin gown to wear as I was doing a bikini hair removal :P

This was my view while lying down and waiting for my treatment to start. I felt a little nervous not knowing what to expect. And of course, not knowing whether this form of hair removal will hurt a little, especially it was at a sensitive area.

Somehow, the treatment bed with the extra support at end, near my feet there, made me feel like it was more professional. It seemed more comfortable placing my feet on the support to prop my legs up.

I had to first put on the goggles below before starting my treatment. Looks funny eh?

I was informed that the treatment was about to begin the moment the machine hand-piece was placed on my skin. Immediately, I felt this weird sensation on my skin but I couldn't quite make out what it was. Every 1-2 seconds, the hand-piece was moved. After a while, I badly wanted to know what was giving me that unusual sensation and found out that the Lumenis LightSheer Duet machine has a vacuum assisted technology that gently pull and stretch the skin before applying the laser energy. So it was a suction feeling on my skin. No wonder, I didn't feel much pain from the laser.

I was told that the vacuum suction allows for a better and smoother hair extraction as the hair follicles are pulled closer to the surface with each suction. I think the suction distracted me from feeling the laser at work too, hence the distraction/reduction in discomfort. It was a plus point for this hair removal treatment! Not only does it reduces discomfort, it also increases efficiency since the vacuum assisted technology reduces the amount of hair removal time required.

At one point, I felt a slight pain and a slight burnt smell. I voiced out my discomfort and a shave was promptly given. Apparently, I didn't shave cleanly and this attracted more laser energy to the area, causing the pain. So, take note to shave properly on treatment day itself. ;)

Well, the whole process was really fast. The whole session was over in less than 10 mins!  There was no need for gels or whatnots. Just the shaved skin and the machine, so it was really much less messier than my regular IPL. This is one of the reasons why the whole session was so speedy. Time is shaved off from applying numbing gel before the session and from applying the post treatment cooling pad and soothing cream.

You can do lunch and have your hair removal session all done with no hassle. It's that convenient and speedy.

Yes, this is the wondrous machine....

My verdict? Hair did not grow out for a month after the treatment in most areas. I was almost hairless! Now, after 2 months, the hair growth has slowed A LOT for most areas and I'm impressed by the results. If this goes on, I think I'd only need a few more sessions to be completely hairless! It's more effective than the other bikini IPL I've tried. It's fast, not messy and the discomfort level is low. Moreover, there's no need to remind myself to shave a few days before treatment.

If you want to find out more, drop me a note or email me at mei.journey@gmail.com. Give it a go and experience the effectiveness yourself.

iHerb.com Singapore, Eurasia Express, Now Joint Support Powder & Avalon Organics CoQ10 Wrinkle Defense Serum Reviews

I'm a big iherb.com fan now!!!

Use my code VEW578 or click here to enjoy a 5USD off for purchases below 40USD and for purchases above 40USD, you'll get an instant discount of 10USD!

I tried their Eurasia Express Shipping which was made free in October 2011 for purchase of 60USD and above and was smiling broadly when my purchases arrive. It took them a mere 7 days to have my items delivered into my hands. And this is inclusive of the weekends too. I'm impressed and delighted! =))

I bought 6 items back then and 1 of them was the Avalon Organics CoQ1O Wrinkle Defense Serum which was disappointing. I expected to see visible results but none whatsoever. However, my facial lady and her staff did comment that my eyes look better and it might just be this serum...

The good thing was that the serum is non greasy and it's good for a base to pile on other eye creams.

The Avalon Organics Eye Serum also comes in a pump bottle and it can be a little messy on the caps. You can see the white serum on the inside of my bottle cap above.

Now, I'm on the hunt of a more effective anti-wrinkle eye product. Do recommend me if you know of one.

Another new product I tried this round was the Now Joint Support Powder. I got 1 for bf since he has knee problems and this product had a better value than Viatril-S. But boy, the smell is a killer... It has a a strong shellfish smell that cannot be masked even when I put it into my fruit juice. :(

We can't tell whether it works because it's such a drag to take it on a consistent basis. :P

The cute thing about iHerb.com is they give away free samples or freebies with every purchase. Lately, I've been receiving stationery and it's cute. That's a pen and a highlighter above.

I've shopped with them 8 times and have never encountered missing parcel.

So, if you're convinced, do use my code VEW578 or click here to
  1. Enjoy a 5USD off for purchases below 40USD and enjoy a 10USD discount for purchases above 40USD
  2. Earn commission when you refer new customers who use your code so that you can buy more iHerb products cheaper or maybe even for FREE!

Too Cool For School Skincare & Make Up from Korea; Love it love it love it!!

When I discovered Too Cool For School in Myeongdong, I fell in love with it almost instantly.

It's a make up and skincare brand that carries a range of funky and experimentation products. Looking good should be fun like this!

I simply love it! The packaging is fun and the make up is really good to use. It's has an art school concept and the products are comfortably priced if you want to buy them as gifts too.

The red Art Class Lip Crayon on the bottom left of the picture is a red lip gloss that glides easily on my lips and the colour come out strong too. You can take a look at the other shade here. It's the best red "lipstick" I've found so far. Because it's a gloss, it's real easy to apply unlike the usual red lipstick; you won't need to worry about lining your lips etc.

The Rolly Doll is a handy perfume roll that smells oh-la-la~~

Well, you gotta check it out yourself if you're heading to Myeondong. The shop is numbered 23 on the map above. It's cute and it's cool...

Musee Platinum Singapore Hair Removal : Upper Lip IPL

I went for my Musee Platinum IPL session today and tried something new! Guess which area I went for today?

I had to use this sticker to cover a mole near the treatment area. The therapist pointed out that the it'll be painful if my mole isn't covered.

And that's the mole besides my lip! Yes, I finally got down to trying IPL on my upper lip using my free coupons. You can try it out too! Simple quote my membership no: 81005130 when you sign up with Musee to enjoy a free upper lip session.

I was pretty afraid previously simply because it was my face! The therapist that attended to me today was a patient and friendly girl named Claire who put me at ease. She explained what was to be expected and told me that it'll take an average of 12 weeks for the hair to be permanently removed.

The whole process is fast! About 5 zaps in total and I had to blow air into my cheeks with my mouth close, looking just like a chipmunk.

Although it wasn't painful, I jumped everytime I see the bright flash. I guess it'll take a bit of getting used to. Claire mentioned that since upper lip hair is usually finer, it isn't painful for most people.

I thought I must have looked funny with the cooling pads after the session. But trust me, this picture makes it look painful but it isn't the least bit so. Give it a try yourself! ;)

ETUDE HOUSE Collagen Moistfull Essence & Sunblocks Review

Remember those beauty products I bought from Seoul earlier this year? I finally got a chance to try them out and review them now.

One of my best buys is the above Etude House Collagen Moistfull Essence retailing at 15,000KRW in Korea.

Yes, you've guessed it! The reason why I like it is because at this extremely low price, I can still get a quality product that's effective. It's selling at about 40+SGD here but cost me less than 20SGD. The texture is a little sticky but it moisturize well and smells lovely. Sometimes, I use this essence before my moisturiser. Other times, I even use it on its own!

I've been trying out all kinds of sunblock and none has been satisfactory so far. Mainly, It's because I dislike the thick and slightly oily texture of sunblocks. And I prefer those with SPF50 and above.

So far, Etude House Sun Power Cotton Touch with SPF50+ meets my expectations. It's meant to give a cottony finish with its thick and powdery texture. For starters, you may find it a little hard to apply and even out the thick sunblock. The trick is to thinly layer it on so that you won't look pasty with a purplish tinge to your skin.

Somehow, I think the purple tinge will play a part in toning down yellow skin tone. I think this sunblock is great and indeed less oily than most SPF50+ sunblocks in the market. By the way, I have combination skin.

As for the other Sun Toner Water Jelly SPF30 in the bottom half of the picture, the texture is similar to many other sunblocks and feels a little sticky to me. After application, I need to let it settle for at least 15 mins before putting on my foundation. I was attracted to this the Sun Toner Water Jelly because of its "Water Jelly" description. Also, all Etude House sunblocks were having a 1 for 1 promotion in Korea in mid June this year.

How cheap can they get??!! Heh!

Great Shopping Buys From Tokyo - Ni

I didn't buy as much beauty products this trip since I still have a lot of beauty products from my last Japan and Seoul trip.

So here is what I got in May from my Tokyo trip:

The hydration paper sheet mask was so good and cheap that I just had to get more. When in Japan, do scout around and you may soon notice some toiletries shops or even pharmacies sell the same item at  lower prices.

I just started using the blue bottle of pore minimizing Cleansing Express make-up remover on the left. The texture is not bad and I love it for it's clean and refreshing feel. Even though it's not oily, it removes my make up very well.

As for the eye-shadows, you'll be surprised at how much I've paid for it. I got them from Daiso and it cost me about 1.60SGD each!! But low priced doesn't mean low quality in this case, the colour pigments turn out  strong and the feel is smooth and soft to touch. I am loving the 12 colours palette; spoilt for choice at such great value!!

By the way, samples were given out so freely on the streets. I got several free skincare products and a pack of tissue on the way out from Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku to the JR Shinjuku South Exit every morning. Haha..

Fancl is another beauty brand that's totally worth buying in Japan. Unlike brands like Sheseido and SKII which are priced the same in Singapore. So, I bought some pretty eye-shadows and a blusher. The small eye-shadows cost about 9SGD each only and the blusher about 12SGD.

As for the Fancl Eye Serum, it costs less than 18SGD! In Singapore, it is selling at 37.50SGD.  I'm almost done with 1 tube and it only moisturizes slightly; I didn't see any significant improvements on my fine lines. It's good for those who wants light hydration. It's moisturizing enough without being oily.

I also shopped quite a bit in Daiso this trip and found many cute items. Above are the 2 dish washing sponges for my family. So cute that you want to squeeze their cheeks right?

Other great buys from this trip were mainly sport items. I didn't have the intention to get any but it was cheap so I just got myself a new pair of Nike sneakers. I simply couldn't resist the yummy orange coloured tick! This pair of Nike sneakers is from L-Breath in Shinjuku, a 7 storeys of sports stuff shopping. The discounted items were displayed outside the shop by the street and I was obviously tempted. It cost 3419JPY after tax refund and do remember to ask for tax refund by showing your passport.

You can check out how the L-Breath building look like from this blog.

Bf got a same pair in green from our last Japan trip from Osaka Rinku Town Premium Outlet. Now, we're matchy matchy!!

Another place with cheap sportswear find is one of the streets at Asakusa. I cannot remember where exactly but it was one of the streets that is perpendicular to the main Nakamise Street and on its right when walking away from Senso-ji Temple. Maybe it's Shin-Nakamise-Don...??

Anyway, it's the same thing. Heavily discounted items are placed by the streets and Adidas cap was going for about 12SGD each only. The top cost me around 15SGD and I ended up getting things I don't really need. But hey, it's co cheap right? ;)

If Adidas is the brand you like, do drop by Ameyoko Market for cheap Adidas sports shoes. The babies and children sports shoes are aplenty there and you'll probably find something for yourself too.

Mum wanted a small casual tote bag so I bought her this mini Agnes b tote in maroon and grey colour. It's not the latest collection but it's a nice colour for her age. Heh.

**Shopping Tips**

If you want the older Agnes b designs or the more popular one that get sold out very fast, go to the lesser traffic malls like O|O| departmental store in Ueno. The Ueno O|O| departmental store is just right opposite the JR train station and it was there that I finally found a suitable Agnes b bag for my mum.

For Burberry Blue/Black Label or other brands available in Takashimaya, do go to the Takashimaya departmental store for your purchases if you own the Takashimaya credit card. Cardholders are entitled to a further 5% discount. Head to the information counter to exchange for the shopping vouchers before making your purchases.

Another cute and value outlet is called 3coins. The concept is like the 100yen shops but the items are of higher quality and better designs. With just 500yen, you can buy many interesting and lovely gift items. Just take a look at their website and blog and you'll know what I mean. I got myself many items yet I wish I could lug back more.

Lastly, one of my favourite shopping discoveries this trip is Jiyugaoka(自由が丘). I've written one whole post on this fashionable residential area that has many charming shops. If you can spare the time, I strongly recommend Jiyugaoka. I'm sure you'll understand why I love it so once you've been there.

b.liv Off With Those Heads & Got Me Covered Product Review

Oh... I found my miracle product and it has made me so happy that I want to share it with you peeps!

If you have oily skin or combination skin like me, and if you are prone to outbreak, I strongly recommend b.liv Off With Those Heads by Cellnique!

Just last month, I read so many good reviews about this product online and couldn't resist waiting until GSS to buy it with a discount from SASA. So, I bought a value pack from SASA that comes with:

  • Squeaky Clean 50ml x 1
  • Off With Those Heads 30ml x 1
  • Got Me Covered 45ml x 1
The value pack cost me $98 and I am so pleased with Off With Those Heads.

I only apply this product on my problematic T-zone every morning and night time. After using it for a few days, I noticed that my face is less oily and the skin on my T-zone is calmer. After a few weeks, I also noticed that I didn't get my monthly pimple due to changes in my hormonal cycle. Yipee!!

I did get 2 pimples over the 3 weeks of usage but they were small ones and 1 appeared right after using Off With Those Heads for the first time.

See my results:

Before

After

There's lesser blackheads on my nose after 3 weeks and I didn't even need to squeeze my blackheads out. The results is amazing, the blackheads just dropped off!! When I went for my facial a few days back, my therapist said that my complexion looks better and it's easier to squeeze out the impurities from my face. I am one happy girl! =)

Got Me Covered is also pretty good with SPF 35 coverage. It gives good coverage and is non-greasy even though it contains sunblock. I use it before using my normal powder foundation and I love its oil control properties. My face feels less oily at end of day when I use these 2 products together.

In fact, I also persuaded bf to give Off With Those Heads a try and helped him purchase the 30ml at $69 directly from b.liv online shop. The item reached me fast within a few days and was sent using DHL service. The good thing about buying it online is that I can get reward points for future purchases.

Bf has less outbreak these days too and we both think it's our miracle product for now. The best oil control product I've ever tried and I've really tried many, many products since my teens.

For those who are wondering what's the difference between Cellnique Skin Action Sebum Gel and b.liv Off With Those Heads, I think it's the ingredients composition. I did a comparison and the ingredients seem the same but are in different proportion for both. So far, b.liv is cheaper and good enough for me!

There's currently 20% promotion in SASA and on b.liv website so I'll be stocking up with a 45ml one 'coz this is my favourite beauty product of the moment!

Must Buy Skincare From Korea: Laneige, Etude House etc.

This trip to Korea wasn't meant to be a shopping trip and yet, I hauled back a lot of my first love - skincare!

Products from Etude House were definitely cheaper than in Singapore (Masks are 1000KRW) so I got some back for pressies. Noticed the sunblock on the bottom right of the pic above? It's a unique one that transformed into a powdery texture. I've yet to use it and hopefully, it doesn't cause clogged pores.

This Magic Bubble Peeling Foam is my star product from Etude House. BF tried it first and got everyone else excited when he showed them how effective it is. I tried it at the hotel and quite like it so I got 4 bottles, some for presents again.

Basically, it's a foam that can be applied directly to the face for rubbing. Dead skin will be removed in the process and after cleansing with water, my face felt really smooth and looks brighter! It cost around 9,000KRW if I remembered correctly.

Another beauty place to grab cheap and good products is Olive Young. Unlike the many other skincare shops in Korea, Olive Young carries a lot of international brands and when I was there last week, some masks were running the 1+1 promo and they cost only 500KRW each!

And best of all, I finally found my ideal BB cream there. Being a atypical tan skin person in Korea, it was so hard to find a BB cream that doesn't make me look like a white face wannabe.

Moreover, I was quite concerned about the thick texture of most creams (because they contain sun protection and are in cream texture) and found this skin79 oil-free fluid base love! It is shimmery but the shimmer doesn't show when using a thin layer below foundation. The shimmer is meant to give a more radiant complexion.

I was pleasantly surprised when my Korean friend told me that skin79 is the most popular BB cream brand in Korea because it made me feel better about my impulse buy.

For those of you who want to know where to get Laneige, head down to Aritaum. they too are scattered all over the city and they carry brands by Amore Pacific, a mega skincare company in Korea. Other brands by Amore Pacific includes IOPE, Innisfree, Etude House, Hera and Sulwahsoo. I hope to try the latter two premium brands someday soon. We met a Korean lady that use the premium brand Hera and boy was her skin good!

Laneige is also available in Watsons and they have a flagship store in Myeong-Dong.

My Collected Samples

The good thing about skincare and cosmetic shopping in Korea is that you'll be given tons of samples! To get more, you can either split your purchases or if greed isn't you, just combine your purchases to enjoy tax refund instead. Surprisingly, most shops in Korea allow tax refund for a mere 30,000KRW and above.

For eg, Etude House gives 5% tax refund for combined purchases of 30,000KRW and 7% for combined purchases of 50,000KRW and above. And remember to ask the salesperson about tax refund if they don't give you the form 'coz most times, once they closed a sale, they'll run off to target the next customer.

Anyway, the paltry tax refund amount collected from the airport allowed us to shop a wee bit more on our last moment in Korea. Happy happy! ;)

How I Cope With My Embarrassment for Brazilian / Bikini IPL

I went for my 6th IPL session today! It's the 6th for my underarms and I was told that I probably need another 2-3 more sessions to have all hair permanently removed. Now, there's only about 5- 6 stray hair that grows out every few days. I'm happy with the results so far.

As for the down under IPL, it's my 3rd time. In case some of you are wondering what's a full Brazilian, it consists of 5 small parts down under, namely:

Even though I've done this 3 times, it's still as embarrassing every single time. So, how do I cope with my embarrassment?
  • Firstly, the therapist will cover your eyes with a towel, tissue and a pair of shades. That's enough to give me the "ostrich head in the sand" feeling for a while.
  • And I keep telling myself that I am just one of the many customers of the therapist doing this so it's no biggie for her. I'm probably feeling it's such a big deal when it's nothing much to her.
  • And when doing the IPL for the lower butt crack, I'd have to lie on my stomach. I usually put my iPhone on the chair below the bed and play with it to further distract myself.
For today, I only did the last 2 small parts. So, it took me only 45 mins for the whole session and it wasn't as hard to bear. I'm pretty happy with the results as it only take 2 sessions to see a difference for the bikini line and the triangles already.

Yipee!

Musee Platinum Singapore IPL Promotion Galore

I went for my 5th treatment at Musee Platinum today and I must say I was pretty satisfied with the results so far.

My underarms hair growth has slowed a lot. So much so that I need only to shave every 4-5 days. And even so, it's only the few fine hair that's hardly noticeable. They're running a $138 unlimited underarm IPL promotion still until end of Feb 2011 according to the staff. Do quote my membership no.: 81005130 if you're signing up for this great deal! =)

And if you've signed up at a higher price, they'll cashback the amount when you sign for another package.

As for the full bikini area, I saw a huge difference after my 2nd treatment. Hair growth has definitely slowed down quite a bit and the hair is finer too. I'm impressed!

For now until 31 Mar 2011, Musee is even running a promotion for the number of friends you refer!

4th IPL Session at Musee Platinum (Full Brazilian Treatment)

In case you girls haven't hard, the Unlimited Underarm IPL Treatment from Musee Platinum in Singapore is running a promotion at $138 now! You heard it from here and please quote my membership no. (member no.: 81005130) to enjoy a FREE upper lip IPL session.

I was there a few days back and found out that they'll minus off $50 for new treatments for those who signed up at $188.

Yes, I was back for my underarms and full brazilian IPL session this time. In case you're wondering what is full brazilian, you can take a look at the image below.

It consists of a total of 5 small parts, namely:
  1. Bikini Line
  2. Upper V Triangle
  3. Lower V Triangle
  4. Inner Thigh
  5. Inner Butt Crack
This time around, I didn't feel so awkward. Maybe it's because the treatment started with me lying on my front for the inner butt crack IPL preparation. Lying on the massage/treatment chair with a hole for my face, I placed my iPhone on the stool to surf while the therapist, Joanne went with the treatment.

Or maybe it was because Joanna is rather friendly and her chatting put me at ease.

In any case, I was spread-eagle chatting and entertained by my iPhone until.... I was asked to turn over and lie on my back. That's when the slight awkwardness set in. Once again, the protective glasses and towels over my eyes helped as I couldn't really see what was going on.

But the feeling is almost like below but more exposed and less relaxed, hehe.. And whenever I hear noise coming from outside of the room, I had the tendency to close up. Hahaha... Felt so exposed....

For those curious cats out there, these are the steps that the therapist will do:
  1. Clean your skin
  2. Shave
  3. Use a sticky tape to pick up loose and fine hair
  4. Apply cold gel
  5. Perform IPL
  6. Wipe off cold gel
  7. Apply cold towel
  8. Apply soothing cream

It was a little more painful for me this time. About 5 out of 10 for the pain level. The pain felt like a light electric shock or a rubber band shooting onto the skin. I asked for the intensity to be lowered and it was bearable thereafter. About 2 out of 10 of the pain level.

I was told that by reducing the IPL intensity, the thicker hair can still be removed  but the finer ones may be missed by the IPL. Oh well, my threshold of pain is lower than my threshold of being hairy... :|

I also found out that IPL actually picks up the pigment of the hair, hence Caucasians with light blonde hair respond better to other hair removal treatments instead of IPL. And the therapists should keep away from any tattoos near the treated areas as it'll be very painful if the the IPL falls on it due to the tattoo colour.

2 sessions won't be enough for my *ahem* region so I'll be going for more.

By the way, if you decide to sign up at the Millenia Walk outlet like I did. Do take this opportunity to shop around PARCO. there's a Christmas promo for all Citibank credit cards holder!! And PARCO has lotsa local designers and interesting outlets. It's a joy to avoid the crowd this Christmas by shopping there! The promotion last until 26 Dec 2010.

If you enjoy this post, do quote my membership no. (member no.: 81005130) to enjoy a FREE upper lip IPL session.

And do drop me a message if you wanna share your experiences or ask me any questions. I'll try my best to answer to the best of my knowledge! ;)
