I am very happy with Astoria Hotel, the hotel we stayed in Seoul this trip 'coz it was cheap and good! 2 thumbs up!!
The usual rate for 1 double room is 226SGD I think but we managed to get a very good rate of 75SGD per night from Agoda. That's a steal right??!!
Astoria Hotel Lobby
For this extremely low price, I think the hotel is perfect, no complains. The staff were friendly and helpful and the place was clean, neat and well maintained. Most of all, the location of this hotel is good. It's located in between Myeon-Dong and Dongdaemun.
Cabbing back in the wee hours of the morning from Dongdaemum cost us less than 4,000KRW. And it's less than 10,000KRW from Gangnam at night too.
Internet and Resting Area in front of Hotel Lobby
They even have a public phone in the lounging area above. It's pretty hard to find a public phone in Korea except at the train stations.
Double Room
Bathroom with Multi-Function Toilet Bowl
I like the to go back to a warm toilet bowl when the weather is cold, hehe...
Chungmuro Exit 4
The nearest subway station to Astoria Hotel is Chungmuro, which is sitting at Line 3 and 4 of the Seoul subway lines.
From the map above, you can see how near it is to Exit 4 of Chungmuro station. It's about 150m or so. Just take exit 4 and walk right ahead and you''ll come to Astoria Hotel located on your left.
View from Chungmuro Exit 4
Should you need to use the escalator, take Exit 2 of Chungmuro station instead. Make a u-turn when you step out of the exit and walk about 300m right down.
The only drawback is that the airport bus does not stop at Astoria Hotel. Instead, it stops at Sejong Hotel which is nearer to Myeong-Dong subway station (refer to the map above). And lugging our luggages across the road didn't seem very appealing to us.
But that didn't bother us one bit as we took the new fast and fuss-free A'REX to Astoria Hotel when we first arrived. On our return trip, we got the hotel staff to help book a premium taxi to fit in our many luggages and it cost 75,000KRW + 5,000KRW(toll) to get to Incheon airport from Astoria Hotel.
If you still perfer to take the bus, you can spot Sejong Hotel easily when you stand right outside of Astoria Hotel. It's easy to walk over.
Nice Nescafe
On the way to the subway very morning, I almost always buy a cup of Nescafe as it's nicer than the usual coffee I get outside.
Convenient, clean, cheap with a very good location; I'll definitely stay in Astoria Hotel again if I go back to Seoul. =)

Hi there
I am planning my trip to seoul. Thinking of staying at the astoria hotel. how do I Get there by taking the AREX train? :)
Hi there,
Yes, you can, just take the A'REX that goes direct to Seoul Station and change to the blue Line 4 at Seoul Station.
Get off 3 stops away at Chungmuro Station (exit 2 if you need to use escalator or exit 4 if you don't) and you'll reach Astoria Hotel is less than 5 mins.
It's really convenient!
You can check out the interactive Seoul subway map here: http://www.smrt.co.kr/Train/Subwaymap/Eng/Subwaymap.jsp
Cheers! =)
hi,
i would like to ask you that my flight will reach korea at 9.45pm so i should take bus or A'REX to
Astoria hotel? cz i realised that the bus will closed at 10.45pm to chungmuro station.if the flight is delay, i scare i can't take the bus to Astoria.
Hi there,
From this website (http://english.arex.or.kr/jsp/eng/time/time_table.jsp), it seems like the train runs 'til midnight so you should be fine taking teh A'REX.
In fact, if the flight is delayed and you managed to take only the A'REX to Seoul city center, don't worry about catching the last train. From Seoul Station to Astoria Hotel, it's very cheap by cab. At most 8SGD. Just don't get into the black cab which is more ex. ;)
You can write in to them to enquire too: http://english.arex.or.kr/jsp/eng/top/contact.jsp
Cheers! =)
Very informative!!!da best
Thank you! =)
hello!!...i'll visit seoul in june this year...just like an anonymous (2 may comment), my flight also will reach korea at 945 pm...and your blog really help me!!....tq so much!!...so taking the APEX is better?..noted!!
I have a question, I read on traveladvisor a comment that it is a Sex Hotel. Did you notice that as well? I have booked to stay there and have seen this comment afterwards and was quite shocked :(
Hi maisara my,
A'rex is cheaper if you have 2 people instead of 4. So, it's better in that sense. ;)
For some train stations, you may have to carry your luggages up the stairs if the nearest exit has no escalator.
Enjoy yourself, I am going back to Seoul in June too.
Cheers,
Mei
Hi Annonymous,
Really? I didn't see that in Tripadvisor.
But you can see for yourself that it is a pretty nice budget hotel. And I saw families with children staying there too.
Not sleazy whatsoever.
Hope you can update us on your stay after your trip. ;)
Hi maisata my,
A'REX is better if you don't mind the hassle of carrying your luggage across train platforms. And more importantly, it is cheap!
Glad that my blog info helps! =)
Hi,
It's not a Sex Hotel from what I know and I didn't come across that.
Since you've already booked it, why not give it a try and share with us what you think of it.
In saw families with young children staying there and it was a pleasant hotel on the whole.
It should be fine. ;)
Hello there! :)
I'd like to book a room there but i am leaving for Jeju for a few days. Do you know if the hotel has any website or any email where we can send in queries? I'd like to leave my lagauge with the hotel when we're away in Jeju if that's possible.
Thanks in advance for your help! :)
wan
Hi Mei,
I'll be flying to Seoul tomorrow and lucky for your information of A'rex otherwise we'd be lugging luggages thru the stairs via exit 4. Thanks oh btw we'll also be staying in Astoria too.
Hi
Can I check with u regarding taking commuter train to airport from hotel. If I need to reach airport by 9am for my flight back, Wat time shld I take the train at Chungmuro Station? Will it be very pack as its the morning rush hour and pulling 1 luggage? Also how do I buy the train ticket to incheon airport? Must I state tat my destination in incheon? Do i buy the tickets from the counter or machine? Btw, which mode of transport will be better so tsp I can reach airport on time as I do not wan to get stuck in the jam or morning rush hour and miss my flight back.
As for bus to hotel from airport, I am aware tat 6015 brings me to sejong hotel where I alight and need to walk to Astoria hotel. My question is does the bus announce it's stop? If not I will I know if the stop has arrive?
Lastly, as I arrive at incheon at 0710, which mode of transport do I take so tat I do not get stuck in the jam as it's the morning rush hour.
Thanks alot.
Hi Anonymous,
You can leave your luggage there and travel to Jeju coz that was what we did when we went to Damyang,
I hope this message reach you in time as I just got back from Tokyo this morning.
Cheers! =)
Hi Swee San,
Glad to be of help and hope your trip is a blast! =)
Hi Anonymous,
You can use this site to plan your train trips in Seoul: http://www.smrt.co.kr/Train/Subwaymap/Eng/Subwaymap.jsp
It provides timing and fares too. You can buy the tickets from the train station and do ask the staff there if you're unsure as to how to do it.
I don't know whether there'll be a rush at 9am in the morning to the airport, if I were you, I'll just travel out half an hour earlier to avoid delays.
You can also check the A'REX timetable here: http://www.arex.or.kr/jsp/eng/time/time_table.jsp?stn_nm=%BC%AD%BF%EF%BF%AA&drv_date_cd=00&x=19&y=13
I don't know about the bus at Sejong hotel as I haven't tried it yet. I am sure you can inform the bus driver to alert you when you reach your destination.
If your concerns are mainly about avoiding jams, why not try the A'REX as it's jam free and cheaper.
Hope this helps! =)
Hi mei
Thanks for ur reply. Maybe I shall try taking the commuter train. From airport, do I buy just 1 ticket to chungmuro station and change train at seoul station?
Any idea will it be useful to buy t-card to use on subway or just buy single trip tickets?
Thanks
Robin
Hi Robin,
If I remember correctly, the direct train takes you to Seoul station only. Thereafter, you'll need to exit and purchase a ticket to Chungmuro station.
The local (within city) trains are on different platform from the A'REX train so you'll need to change if you want to go anywhere else.
I bought the T-card because it is more convenient and I saved a wee bit more each trip. Moreover, the card is pretty cute so I kept it as a souvenir too.
=)
Hi
Can i just check with u...
When u book ur hotel with agoda.com with credit card, did u pay with ur card or pay at the hotel itself on the day of arrival?
Hi,
It depends on the hotel website you're booking with. I booked with agoda.com and it's already charged to my credit card when I select the hotel online.
For booking.com, I understand they won't charge you until you''re at the hotel to make payment.
You need to confirm with the website and do bring along the credit card you booked with as some may require you to make payment with the same credit card.
Hope this helps! =)
Hi
Thanks for your details. I've just booked Astoria for my Dec hols, btw do you have their telephone number (I've searched but to no avail) 'cos I want to be sure of the bedding that I've selected.
Cheers
Hi there,
Sorry for this late reply. I just came back from Seoul recently again and was swarmed with work. If I am not wrong, this is their phone number: +82 2-2268-7111
Cheers! =)
Hey Mei,
I am planning to head to Seoul in August and possibly staying at Astoria Hotel. It would be my first time to korea and would love it to be a memorable one. With all the comments, I think i am pretty clear with the easy excess with the train etc.
As I am going there for a free and easy trip. I would like to know which are the good places that you have visited (sight-seeing, shopping, food etc) and are they very far away?
your help is much appreciated =)
caz
Hi Caz,
How long will you be in Seoul? If it's alright with you, do leave your email address here and I'll send you the info I've compiled for my Seoul trips.
If you're into shopping, you cannot miss Dongdaemun, Myeong-Dong & Nandaemun Market.
Cheers,
Mei
Hey mei, sorry for having to spam you with my mail. lol. i was planning to do my hotel reservations today but all the websites show that astoria hotel is fully occupied for the days that id like to travel. Bummer. Would you know any other good hotels which are reasonably priced and is convenient. do email me instead if its okay with you. =)
regards,
caz
Hi there,

hi, i am going korea on september for 8 days with my family a total of 4 people and would like to find some good hotel. is there any recommendation? thankss
Hi micro-khk,
I only tried Astoria hotel and Central Hotel the last 2 trips. Central was bad.
My friend stayed at Sejong Hotel and the review was not bad. It's one stop away from Astoria and it's more expensive: http://www.tripadvisor.com.sg/Hotel_Review-g294197-d308007-Reviews-Sejong_Hotel_Seoul-Seoul.html
HTHs! =)
Hi,
I'll visiting Seoul with my family of 4 this December. We're thinking of staying in Astoria after reading your good review. However, we need to find out if they have quad rooms. Do you have Astoria's email? so that I could communicate my queries directly. Thanks for your help.
Jenn
Hi,
I don't have but you can write to Agoda.com instead and eqnuire through them: http://www.agoda.com/asia/south_korea/seoul/astoria_hotel.html?type=1&site_id=1410012&url=http://www.agoda.com/asia/south_korea/seoul/astoria_hotel.html&tag=c71dfafd-0547-4477-908e-8b583fecc7f7&gclid=CLOJyZ7PtKoCFYN66wodCE4d4Q
Hope this helps!! =)
Hi,
Your blog is very informative however i still have some hesitations and needs answers.
Were traveling this November to Seoul. We have no Idea where and how are we going around seoul, We are planning to stay at Astoria as we love your review about the hotel. is the hotel near to most of the places of interest in seoul?
can you recommend an IT for 5 days.
Thanks.
Hi,
Have you booked Astoria? You'll have to be quick coz it's a popular hotel. ;)
And the hotel is situated 1 stop away from Myeong-Dong and Dongdaemum so it's pretty convenient to these 2 main shopping areas.
Even if you go over to the hip Gangnam area and hitch a cab back at night without heavy traffic, it'll cost you less than 10 SGD.
As for places to go, I'll suggest these few:
-Dongdaemum (a big shopping area that can last you up to 2 days if you're a shopaholic)
-Myeong-Dong
-Nandaemum
-Insadong
-Itawon
-Korean Folk Viallage
-Nami Island (where they filmed Winter Sonata)
-Ewha University
-Samcheong-Dong (Bukchon traditional hanok area with 2 palaces situated nearby)
-Everland (if you like Theme Pearks)
You can check out some of the places I went earlier this year here: http://life-bite.blogspot.com/search/label/Korea
Cheers! =)
Hi Mei,
Thanks You for the reply. it was indeed helpful. Yes we've booked Astoria already.
We are checking those places you suggested, one thing you missed tho' the 1st Coffee Prince shop :) we wanted to go to the 1st coffee prince shop as my wife keep bugging me about it.
Flight will be arriving Incheon around 10PM hopefully we have enough time to catch the train to Myeong-Dong.
Cheers
Hi there, do you know if how would the weather be like in seoul during november 14th? was thinking of going there but im not sure if there would be anything to shop? or is it already winter. thanks! :)
Hi David,
What's 1st coffee prince shop? I must try it when I nest go back to Seoul since you wife loves I so much. =)
Hi Annonymous,
I think it's already winter in Novembar and you can check out the past year weather from this weather site: http://www.wunderground.com/global/stations/47108.html
According to my Korean friends, it was already snowing in November last year.
It'll be nice! =)
Hi Mei, thanks for replying. so i should be packing winter clothes? :)
Hihi,
I think it's safer to check 1 or 2 weeks before you travel again as it'll more accurate.
Cheers! =)
We r visiting Seoul this Xmas, appreciate some tips:-
1. Thinking of catching a taxi fr Incheon Airport to Astoria Hotel. Whats the dif betw std and premium taxi? Is there a sign at the airport where to catch taxi? U think driver wld understand the address if we print it out in English? How much is the approx cost?
2. Is there anywhere at the airport we can buy a local sim card for iphone 4 so we can make local calls and surf internet?
Hi bearsticky,
1) The premium black taxi has more facilities and is safer but that doesn't mean the normal standard taxis are not safe. Korea is a pretty safe country to travel to. But the price difference can be quite a bit. I don't know about the premium taxi to Seoul from Incheon. But I think the normal one will be less than 100SGD. Our ride from Astoria to Incheon was 80+SGD.
As for the address, it may be a little tricky as the Korean pronounce the words slightly differently from us. If it's a popular hotel (eg. Astoria Hotel at Chungmuro) at a popular location (eg. Myeong-dong), they'll have an easier time understanding you. It's best to along the map (using google map or the hotel provided one) if you're worried.
2) wifi is widely available in Korea and if you cannot connect on the streets, try shopping complexes or cafes or some hotels. As for calls, you'll need to rent phone instead. You can find out more about the charges here: http://life-bite.blogspot.com/2011/04/korea-calling-cards-prepaid-phonecards.html
Hope you'll have a fantastic X'mas holiday in Seoul! =)
Hi! We're heading to Seoul this Oct 20-24. How can we get to Astoria Hotel? If there are eight of us which would you recommend bus?taxi?train? (which among is the cheapest?) Thanks!
Hello, would you happen to know the room rates in Astoria? Me and my family are traveling this November and we're considering Astoria Hotel.
CHEERS!
Hi,
I am not sure whether there's a surcharge from taxi from airport to hotel.
If there isn't, it'll be about 80SGD for a jumbo cab for 4-5, you'll need a jumbo one to fit in all your luggage.
For bus, it'll also be close to 20SGD (slightly less) per person. But the nearest stop is Sejong Hotel from Astoria. So you might as well go for taxi is there's no surcharge.
Train is the cheapest at 3800KRW +900KRW per person. But you gotta pull your luggage.
HTH! =)
Hi,
I usually book from agoda.com as it has one of the more competitive rates around and it can confirm the room instantly.
http://www.agoda.com/asia/south_korea/seoul/astoria_hotel.html
If you book early, you can get it at around $100. We got ours at a special deal on agoda at 75SGD per room per night! ;)
Hi, Mei
I'll be going to Seoul next year March for 7 nights.
Can u share with me the highly recommended places to visit & shop.
I'll be arriving Seoul at abt 10pm. its more advisable to take the normal cab to the hotel right?
The airport have cab counter?
Do u recommend us to join local tour to tourist spots?
Hi, May
I'll be going to Seoul with my family next year March.
Where would you recommend us to visit & shop?
Do you know of any shopping area with good prices rather than tourist spot whereby the sellers will jack up the prices?
Hi Matt,
These are some of the places I know of:
-Dongdaemun (a big shopping area that can last you up to 2 days if you're a shopaholic)
-Myeong-Dong
-Nandaemun
-Insadong
-Itawon
-Korean Folk Village
-Nami Island (where they filmed Winter Sonata)
-Ewha University
-Samcheong-Dong (Bukchon traditional hanok area with 2 palaces situated nearby. It's an arty area with a lot of cafes.)
-Hongdae - Hongik University Station (for late night BBQ dinner and shopping and cafes in the small streets, they close around 12 midnight)
-Everland (if you like Theme Parks)
You'll be able to move around on your own if you do your research beforehand. If you rather save the hassle of planning, for longer distance places like Everland, Korean Folk Village and Nami Island, you can join a local tour.
Most Koreans cannot speak English well so you'll probably need to take note of train exits and print out the train map in advance etc. for places of interest.
I have yet to visit DMZ and for that, you'll need to join a local tour.
Cheers! =)
Hi Matt,
The A'REX timetable can be found here: http://english.arex.or.kr/jsp/eng/index.jsp
Do take note that by the time you're done with immigration, it may be much later than 10pm.
If there's a lot of people in your family, it'll be more convenient to take a cab too. From city to airport, it cost around 80SGD. I am not sure about the other way around. Just remember to take a jumbo cab for all the luggage! ;)
Hi Mei,
Your blog has been really informative, i managed to get a room with Astoria & my trip is mid Nov.
1. I need help to get to Alpensia ski where i book a room with hotel intercontinental. How do i get to there from Astoria?
2. I might pop over to Yongpyong ski cos i heard its not there far from Alpensia. You hv any info or tips on this?
3. Both alspensia & yongpyong is located at pyeongchang. Is there any other attraction there you wana advise? Is Mt Sorak nearby?
Thank u & sorry to trouble u :)
Hi Dew,
I don't know where Alpensia ski and Hotel Intercontinental is so I am unable to advise you.
I hope I am not too late in replying you. Have a fun time skiing!
Cheers,

Hi
I am planning to go Korea in april next yr.
Do you mind sending me your compiled guide for korea?
Thanks alot.
xiaohuiis@gmail.com
Hi there,
Sent. =)
Thanks for your informations. I will be in Seoul next month. Do you know approximately taxi price from Seoul station to hotel Astoria? Is it true that hotel Astoria sometime offer free breakfast ?
Hi,
I'm planning to go Korea in June or July.
Do you mind sending me your itinerary? And also would like to know roughly when did u book your hotel in advance to get such great deal? :)
My email is c.xueli89@gmail.com
Thanks :)
Hi gaga,
Yes, Astoria Hotel does offer free breakfast but I think my deal was so cheap that it didn't come with that. Haha..
Price from Seoul Station To Hotel Astoria will be less than 10SGD. Maybe around 5SGD or so only.
HTHs!
P/S. Can help to click on my ads? Thanks! =)
Hi Anonymous,
I usually go to Agoda.com to get good deals. And it was a last minute deal, that's why it was co cheap. I'll send you my itinerary doon.
Have a Merry Christmas and great year ahead! =)
Cheers,
Mei
Hi Mei,
I really enjoyed reading your blog:) i came across it while checking the reviews on Astoria Seoul on tripadvisor. We'll be traveling to seoul this coming march 2nd week. I wonder if i could ask some questions:
1) We'll be arriving at Incheon around 9:00 pm, how do we go to Astoria at that time? should we take a cab, a bus or is there a train still at that time?
2) Is the hotel really not that bad? and is it very near the myeongdong shopping district ans are there lots of shops and cafes surrounding the hotel?
3) How fare is the next station on foot, like in minutes?
Lastly, is the location safe?
Thank you so much,
Matt
Hi Matt,
Glad you enjoy my blog.
1) If you want to save money, train is the cheapest way to go especially if there's only 2 person. There's train from Incheon airport all the way until 11pm+ as seen on this website: http://www.arex.or.kr/jsp/eng/time/time_table.jsp
For bus, it doesn't stop at Astoria and you'll need to walk a distance.
If not, taxi is also worth it as you won't need to lug your luggage around the train station. It cost about 50,000 KRW or so for a normal taxi (not the black premier or the big taxi for more people or luggage).
2) I find the hotel not bad for the price I paid and it's quite centralized. The rooms are big too. If you prefer a hotel right in the middle of Myeong-dong, you can try the SkyPark 1 :http://life-bite.blogspot.com/2011/10/hotel-skypark-myeongdong-1-seoul-review.html But the rooms are significantly smaller.
3) I haven't tried walking on foot to the next station but it's pretty near like 15 mins or so I think. And the area is safe.
Have fun! =)
Hi Mei
This is my first time visiting korea. it will be from 1st to 7th May 2012, will i be able to catch the cherry blossom season? And where should i go to see it?
As for the AREX from Incheon to Seoul, is it a direct train? do i have to change to other lines? and how long is the travelling time?
I will only be landing at 10pm, will i be able to make it for the last train? how do i purchase the tickets? are they in english and user friendly?
I tried to book Astoria Hotel from Agoda Hotel but no rooms are available is there any website to book other than agoda? not sure if it was fully booked or the rates are not out yet.
Apologise for asking so many questions and thanks for your advise.
Hi,
The dates for the Cherry Blossom viewing are usually confirm 1-2 weeks before the bloom. You can check with a tour agency and find out if they have any idea. I don't know about the places to go for viewing, maybe you can do a search online.
And AREX brings you to Seoul station. From there you have to change to other lines. It takes about 50 mins from the airport to Seoul station.
I usually book through Agoda and booking.com coz I trust these 2 websites. The rooms sell out pretty fast. You may need to check out other hotels if so.
Good luck and have fun! =)
I love your blog it's look nice and attractive interesting and good information shared here and photos are also nice.
Hi Mei! U have a very informative blog. Tks for sharing the info. If it's no trouble, can u email me ur compiled guide of Seoul (ywyve@yahoo.com.sg)? Also, I'd like to find out more about A'rex like if the station is far from Astoria?
Thanks in advance! ^^
Yv
Hi Mei, your blog is very useful and informative. I also booked this Astoria hotel at the end of July. I wonder if you have their email address. I did some research and your recommendation of how to get to the hotel. Besides taking AREX to Seoul station and switch to Metro Subway. How about if I take the Limousine bus 6015, it goes through Chungmuro station and stop at Meyongdong Station finally. I can get off at Chungmuro station. Does it make sense to you? This way I don't need to switch to Metro subway while I carry the luggage. Because we have 3 pesons to travel.
thanks in advance
HI Mei
Was there a bus tour to Nami Island from Astoria hotel? Was it same day return trip and how much does it cost?
thanks
benny
Hi Mel,
Ur blog is really useful. Thanks for all the info. I'm going to jeju and seoul in coming July. Just wondering if u can share with me your iternary to Seoul and mayb jeju as well if u have gone before? :) thanks in advance! Here's my email:
kalyn_chis@msn.com
Hi there,
If you can get off at Chungmuro Station taking Limousine bus 6015, it'll be good as it's quite a near walk. ;)
Hi Benny,
I don't know about Nami Island trip as the last time I went there was about 5 years back with a tour group...
It can be a day trip but I don't know much else.
Hi,
You email kalyn_chis@msn.com has a permanent error...
Hi Mei!
Thanks for sharing these valuable information! :) Do you mind to email me your guide of korea to mabel_belle@yahoo.com?
i'd be in seoul on 4-6 may. But this hotel is fully booked. Do you have any other recommendations for cheap hotels of less than 100sgd per night around that area?
By the way, how is the shopping at insadong and itawon? Is what they're selling pretty similar to myeongdong or dongdaemun? Due to the limited time, I don't think I can cover so many places.
Thanks! :)
Hi Mabel,
It's sent. You can check out this other hotel: http://life-bite.blogspot.com/2011/10/hotel-skypark-myeongdong-1-seoul-review.html
Insadong sells a lot of cultural items and artworks. I prefer Itawon. they sell different things. For Myeong-Dong, it's like Singapore's Orchard Road and Dongdaemun has a lot of wholesale items.
Cheers! =)
hihiii...
I had read somewhere that there is this special device whereby foreigners can rent and use it in Korea. This advantage of this device is that if you speak in English, the device is able to translate it for you.
Do you happen to know where am I able to get this?
Thanks in advance first! ^^
kym~
Hi Kym,
I know they even have translation service which you can call but I don't have the details. Maybe you can check with the hotel staff instead.
Good luck! =)
